New hire will head Business and Community Development efforts 

Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) has announced that Mr. Joseph A. Yelo, MBA, MT(ASCP) SBB will be joining the organization on March 10, 2014, as Lead Executive for Business and Community Development.

Yelo, most recently the Vice President of Administration & Risk at Miller-Keystone Blood Center in Bethlehem, PA, has more than 30 years of experience in the blood and transfusion industry.

During his long tenure at Miller-Keystone, Yelo was responsible for the Operational responsibility for a community blood service program that included 325 employees, 500 volunteers, Apheresis and Whole Blood Operations, Technical Services, Nursing Services and Donor Recruitment.

“Joe’s industry expertise and experience is a solid compliment to BBD’s overall strategy and  commitment to serve our community and patients, while also contributing to the broader success of  our organization,” said Roy Roper, President and CEO of Blood Bank of Delmarva.

Yelo holds a MBA in Management/Health Care Administration from LaSalle University, a BA in Biology from LaSalle and a BS in Medical Technology from Pennsylvania State University.  He also acts as an Advisory Member of the Transfusion Medicine NIH Grant Award Panel of Temple University Hospital and Medical School.

A former member of the Board of Directors of AABB (formerly known as American Association of Blood Banks), America’s Blood Centers, Community Blood Center’s Exchange and the New Jersey Society of Blood Bank Professionals among others, Yelo is also very active in community activities.  He has served as a Past President/Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Allentown, PA and is an active volunteer with the PA Masonic Organization, March of Dimes, American Heart Association and United Way.
